Abstract

Objective: To analyze the occurrence of veiling and thickening of the sinus mucosa with healthy and partially healthy dental elements up to 1/3 of dentin, using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). Methods: Quantitative observational-descriptive study. The sample consisted of 239 CBCT images, between 2020 and 2023, analyzed by two evaluators using the Dental Slice software, using an image bank from a dental clinic at an educational institution. To analyze the variables, the Chi-square and Fisher's Exact Tests were used. A significance level of 5% (p-value≤0.05) was applied. The Study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (opinion:6.513.598). Results: The presence of thickening and veiling was similar between healthy and partially healthy elements with 1/3 of dentin involved with the same value (p= 0.547). Furthermore, the proximity of the root apices to the sinus pathologies mentioned above was evaluated, but without statistical significance (p=0.691). Conclusion: The aforementioned sinus changes did not show a direct correlation with healthy teeth and partially healthy teeth up to 1/3 of the dentin. However, there is a need for more research combining quantitative and qualitative data.
