Abstract
Objective: To identify the most effective nutritional strategies for patients undergoing PEG and to assess the impact of enteral nutrition on the nutritional status of these individuals. Methods: This is an integrative literature review based on the PRISMA protocol, with a search in databases such as PubMed, SciELO and BVS. Articles published between 2019 and 2025 were analyzed, focusing on nutritional strategies and the impact on the nutritional status of patients with PEG. Results: The studies analyzed indicated that PEG is indicated for patients with swallowing difficulties due to neurological diseases, neoplasms or other clinical conditions. Benefits include improved nutritional status, reduced complications and hospitalizations. Strategies such as the use of industrialized or mixed diets have been evaluated, showing advantages in the personalization of therapy. Despite the benefits, complications such as dermatitis and obstructions can occur, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary monitoring and home care programs. Conclusion: PEG is an effective strategy for nutritional support, promoting improvement in nutritional status, quality of life and dehospitalization. Personalized and multidisciplinary nutritional management is essential to optimize results and minimize complications, strengthening the role of enteral nutrition in the care of vulnerable populations.
