Abstract
Objective: To analyze the prior knowledge in First Aid among students in the first semester of the Medicine course at a Higher Education Institution in Bahia. Methods: Descriptive observational quantitative study that used primary data, through structured face-to-face questionnaires applied to a sample of 55 students, aiming to evaluate the knowledge of first aid in students of the 1st semester of the medical course before and after exposure to the First Aid discipline. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: On a scale of 0 to 10, the average number of correct answers for the sample evaluated before exposure to the first aid discipline was 5.58 ± 2.02 points and after, it was 9 .81 ± 0.39 (p<0.000). Conclusion: Therefore, students improved considerably after contact with the subject, demonstrating a significant evolution in students' knowledge after exposure to the subject, in addition to contributing to students' understanding of the importance of teaching First Aid in medical training.
