Abstract

Objective: To validate an Entrustable Professional Activity (EPA) for the surgical treatment of distal radius fractures in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Medical Residency Program. Methods: A previously developed EPA was applied to residents at the São Francisco de Assis Hospital Complex. The mean scores obtained were compared according to the year of training. Student's t-test was used for mean comparisons, and Cronbach's alpha test was employed to assess internal consistency. Results: The EPA was applied to 23 medical residents between September and October 2019, covering a total of 73 surgeries, with an average of 3.2 procedures per resident. For almost all evaluated items, the third-year residents achieved higher mean scores compared to second- and first-year residents, and the second-year residents scored higher than the first-year residents. These differences were statistically significant. Internal consistency was very high according to Cronbach's alpha. Conclusion: The EPA was successfully validated, resulting in an instrument capable of distinguishing medical residents based on their year of training.
