Abstract

Objective: To evaluate vitamin D levels in patients diagnosed with tuberculosis and their association with clinical and epidemiological characteristics in the city of Marabá, Pará, Brazil. Methods: This exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 14 patients, based on an analysis of medical records, standardized forms, and vitamin D measurements. The target population consisted of patients undergoing tuberculosis treatment between August and September 2024 at a primary healthcare unit in Marabá. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: Fourteen tuberculosis patients were included, most of whom were new cases. The majority of participants were male (71.4%) and of brown ethnicity (71.4%). Most patients were aged between 45 and 59 years (50%). Pulmonary tuberculosis predominated (71.4%), with a smaller number of extrapulmonary cases. Common comorbidities included diabetes and drug use, while HIV- tuberculosis co-infection was low (7.1%). Half of the patients presented with insufficient vitamin D levels. The socioeconomic profile, marked by low educational attainment and precarious housing conditions. Conclusion: The findings of limited social support and vitamin D insufficiency in half of the patients emphasize the need for enhanced support for vulnerable populations to improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce the incidence of new cases.
