Abstract

Objective: To describe the impact of demarcation in the creation of an elimination stoma on the quality of life of patients. Methods: This is an integrative review, in which the search for articles was carried out in the SciELO and PUBMED databases, which will include articles published between 2018 and 2023, in English and Portuguese, within the theme addressed. The exclusion criteria were: duplicate articles, reflection and opinion articles, commentaries, theoretical essays, editorials, letters, reviews and expanded abstracts. Considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 07 articles that met the criteria were selected for the research. Results: Preoperative demarcation is associated with a reduction in the incidence of complications and a better quality of life in the postoperative period, highlighting the importance of this procedure for the well-being and satisfaction of the ostomized patient. Final considerations: According to the studies analyzed in this research, it is concluded that demarcation has proven to be crucial for reducing complications and providing autonomy in self-care, contributing significantly to a better quality of life for patients and preventing complications.
