Abstract

Objective: To investigate the current socioeconomic, clinical, dietary and anthropometric panorama of children affected by SCZ. Methods: Children diagnosed with microcephaly associated with SCZ, treated between 2020 and 2022 in anutrition ambulatory of a university hospital, were recruited. Family socioeconomic, clinical, dietary and anthropometric information was collected from the children. Results: 38 children were included, most of them with per capita monthly income below the poverty line (71.1%). Dysphagia and constipation were the most prevalent clinical conditions (42.1% and 44.7%, respectively). In the food and nutritional dimension, around 50% of them were not exclusively breastfed until the 6th month of life, and presented inadequate weight (65.8%), height (44.8%) and BMI for age (69 .0%). A relationship was observed between the presence of nutritional deviations and socioeconomic and clinical variables (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study demonstrated an economically vulnerable family profile and clinical impairment of children, especially the gastrointestinal tract, in addition to a significant presence of nutritional disorders related to these vulnerabilities.
