Abstract
Objective: To understand the effectiveness of medicinal Cannabis use in treating the motor and non-motor symptoms characteristic of Parkinson's Disease (PD). Bibliographic review: Treatment with Cannabis, specifically Cannabidiol (CBD), has been studied for various neurodegenerative diseases, including PD. While CBD shows potential in alleviating symptoms such as dystonia and dyskinesias, its efficacy in the motor symptoms of PD still lacks robust evidence. Cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 are present in crucial areas for motor coordination, and CBD may influence dopaminergic neurotransmission, but the results regarding its effect on PD motor symptoms are inconsistent. Additionally, although CBD may improve non-motor symptoms such as anxiety and sleep disorders, adverse effects including sedation and hallucinations are concerning. Final considerations: The use of cannabis derivatives has not shown significant advantages in Parkinson's Disease. Cannabidiol has been shown to be insufficient in treating motor symptoms, and its uncertain adverse effects make its use risky.
