Abstract

Objective: To analyze stress levels in students of Multiprofessional Health Residency Programs. Methods: This is a quantitative, analytical and cross-sectional study. 112 residents of the Multidisciplinary Residency Programs in Family Health and Mental Health at the State University of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil participated. Data collection took place online via Google Forms, with the participants' prior consent. The Lipp Stress Symptoms Inventory for Adults was used to assess the level and phase of stress. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science version 24.0, with descriptive statistics and Pearson's chi-square test (p<0.05). Results: Stress was more frequent in the resistance (53.6%) and alert (22.3%) phase, with exhaustion predominant in second-year residents (R2) (70%, p=0.037). Physical (59.6%) and psychological (60.7%) symptoms were common, with emphasis on "knot in the stomach" (p=0.015) and "frequent diarrhea" (p=0.040) in R2. Sex, religion and time since training showed significant associations with stress, especially in the resistance phase. There was no significant association with age, marital status, skin color or number of children. Conclusion: Residents presented high levels of stress, with a predominance of psychological symptoms, especially in the first year. Religion was associated with the exhaustion phase, and female gender with the resistance phase. The importance of psychological support and more welcoming environments is highlighted.
