Abstract

Objective: Explore the interaction between intestinal dysbiosis and the development of lupus erythematosus, its associated complications, and the potential treatments that target the intestinal microbiota to improve the disease prognosis. Literature review: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by the generation of autoantibodies, which can cause multi-organ damage, particularly affecting the skin, kidney, and central nervous system. Understanding how changes in the microbiota affect the development and progression of the disease is crucial. Alterations in the composition of the intestinal microbiota, leading to dysbiosis, can compromise the intestinal barrier, reducing its interaction and allowing microorganisms to enter the bloodstream. These microorganisms, once in the blood, interact with the immune system and can trigger both innate and adaptive immune responses, contributing to the generation of autoantibodies. Final Considerations: Therefore, it is extremely important to evaluate the factors that lead to dysbiosis and how this interaction affects the evolution of systemic lupus erythematosus, in addition to checking the possible treatments available, such as the use of pre and probiotics, glucocorticoids, antibiotics and fecal transplants, which can help improve the patient's quality of life.
