Abstract

Objective: To analyze the psychological reflections of judicial servants' work in the judicialization of health, investigating their psychological suffering and the defensive strategies adopted in response to the pressure of making decisions that impact the lives of claimants. Methods: A qualitative study conducted with seven civil servants from the Pernambuco Court of Justice who work in the analysis of health-related lawsuits. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, analyzed using Thematic Content Analysis. Results: Participants reported varying degrees of psychological distress, expressing feelings such as anguish, frustration, and helplessness in the face of health-related lawsuits. Identified defensive strategies included individual and collective mechanisms such as rationalization of decisions, emotional detachment from cases, and reliance on medical reports to support judgments. Heavy workloads and the repetitive nature of similar cases were cited as factors exacerbating emotional strain. Conclusion: The study highlights that working with health-related lawsuits affects the mental health of judicial servants, requiring defensive strategies to mitigate psychological suffering. Institutional support and policies aimed at improving the well-being of these professionals are necessary.
