Abstract

Objective: To identify in the scientific literature the contributions of infodemiological studies to the fields of health and nursing. Methods: This is an integrative literature review on the contributions of infodemiology, highlighting its relevance to health practice, nursing, and epidemiological surveillance. Results: After searching scientific databases, 549 studies were found that could be relevant in the initial analysis according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After reading the abstracts, articles that were not related to the researched theme were excluded, leaving 26 articles, which were fully read by independent reviewers. Seven articles were excluded for not answering the research question. Therefore, 19 studies were included in the review for addressing the research question. Final considerations: Infodemiology can assist in the formulation of health policies and provide an effective method for collecting real-time data, informing, and instructing healthcare professionals. The study also pointed to the need for reliable and updated online resources, emphasizing the crucial role of healthcare professionals in guiding the population on health education.
