Abstract
Objective: To establish relationships that can contribute to clarifications about the relationship between the sequelae of Retropubic Radical Prostatectomy (RRP) and Prostate Cancer (PCa). Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study that evaluated 239 patients, aged 39 to 80 years, who underwent RRP, between January 2017 and December 2023, at the Urology Medical Residency Service of the Hospital Regional do Vale do Paraíba. The data collected, through the evaluation of medical records and surgical descriptions, were interpreted together with materials obtained from platforms such as Pubmed, Scielo and other institutional health portals. Results: Patients with altered BMI, above normal, presented greater perioperative complications in RRP. Among the intraoperative sequelae that most affected this type of patient, the most prominent were rectal opening, difficult prostate dissection and bleeding. Infection, bleeding, pubic symphysis protrusion, bladder fistula and need for cystostomy, colostomy, urethrotomy and urethroplasty were the most prevalent early postoperative sequelae in these patients, while erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence and the combination of both were the most prevalent in these patients in relation to late postoperative sequelae. Conclusion: Patients with altered BMI have a greater tendency to develop complications and sequelae in the surgical treatment of PCa.
