Abstract

Objective: To analyze cervical cancer screening in mobile unit visits of a reference laboratory, according to recommendations of the Ministry of Health. Methods: Cross-sectional study of data from the Cervical Cytopathological Examination Form of women treated at the Mobile Unit, in 2018. Results: The records indicated that 1,746 women were treated, with 29.1% in the age group of 50 to 59 years. Of these, 93.2% had already undergone the preventive examination. Among the sociodemographic characteristics, the following stand out: low education level (51.8%), black race (50.4%), and urban residence (93.7%). Regarding the quality of the biological sample, 93.6% were considered adequate for the tests. Regarding the microbiological agents, cocci-shaped bacteria were identified most frequently (34.5%). Among benign cellular alterations, worsening was the most frequent finding (52.2%). The most common low-grade intraepithelial lesions were atypical squamous cell lesions (0.03%). Conclusion: To effectively reduce the incidence and mortality rates of this neoplasm, it is essential to improve the quality and access to screening.
