Abstract

Objective: To analyze the functionality and independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) of elderly individuals attending the physiotherapy outpatient clinic in Campo Largo-PR. Methods: A cross-sectional, quantitative observational study was conducted with 71 elderly individuals receiving care at the physiotherapy outpatient clinic. Data were collected using a sociodemographic questionnaire, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Clinical-Functional Vulnerability Index-20 (IVCF-20), Lawton and Brody Scale, and Katz Index. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Chi-Square Test. Results: The participants were predominantly elderly women (66%), aged between 60 and 70 years. More than half were overweight (52%), and 56% were retired without other employment. Although independent in ADLs, they showed partial dependence in IADLs, with a significant association between frailty and dependence in IADLs (p < 0.05). The partial dependence in IADLs highlights the need for strategies focused on mental health, mobility, and fall prevention. Conclusion: Preventive and rehabilitation measures should be implemented to promote active and independent aging, with periodic assessments and multidisciplinary follow-up to maximize the quality of life of the elderly.
