Abstract

Objective: To analyze the possible impacts associated with the mis use of psychostimulant drugs in the university environment. Literature review: The literature points to a significantin crease in the non-therapeutic use of psychostimulants, such as methylphenidate and lisdexamfetamine, especially among university students. This use is related to factors such as pressure for academic performance, competitiveness, peer influence, and ease of access, often without a prescription. Methylphenidate, in particular, leads in popularity, followed by other substances such as lisdexamfetamine and even caffeine in high doses. Users seek cognitive enhancement, especially during exam periods, although the real efficacy for individuals without ADHD has not been scientifically proven. Side effects include insomnia, tachycardia, anxiety, and, in severe cases, psychosis and dependence. Agencies such as ANVISA and FDA have a dopted regulatory measures to limitin discriminate use, requiring specific prescriptions and strict control. Final considerations: The abusive use of psychostimulants in the academi cenvironment represents a multifactorial public health problem. Coping strategiess hould include health education programs, psychological support, medical monitoring, and preventive institutional policies. Raising awareness of the risks associated with the non-prescription use of these substancesis essential to protect students' mental and physical health, promoting a more balanced academic environment.
