Abstract

-

Objective: To select and analyze recent findings in the literature on dental fluorosis (DF) in children. Methods: For this integrative review, it was constructed a search strategy for the PubMed database, in March 2025, using the descriptors dental fluorosis, mottled enamel, enamel defective, and dentistry, combined with Boolean operators. Articles published within the last five years were selected to compile the most recent evidence on the topic. Results: After reading the title, abstract and/or full text, 23 studies were included. 60.86% of the studies evaluated risk factors, causes and prevalence of FD and 21.73% of the studies aimed to discuss characteristics and severity of FD. The oldest article was published in 2020 and the most recent in 2025. Final considerations: Most of the articles published in the last five years have an observational design and address the topic of epidemiology. Although fluoride is essential for caries prevention, the literature recommends controlling its intake. Future research addressing knowledge gaps is needed to explore treatment strategies and the management of DF.
