Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of reported tuberculosis cases in the state of Pernambuco from 2019 to 2023. Methods: This is an epidemiological study with an observational, descriptive, and retrospective design, based on a time series approach. Results: The present study identified a progressive increase in reported cases, with a predominance among male individuals, within the economically active age group (20 to 59 years), and those with lower educational attainment. This scenario, supported by findings from other regional and national studies, highlights the persistence of socioeconomic inequalities as a determining factor for the continued prevalence of tuberculosis at concerning levels, as well as the greater exposure of adult men, possibly associated with limited access to and adherence to health services. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate a progressive increase in tuberculosis cases in Pernambuco during the study period, with a predominance in males aged between 20 and 59 years.
