Abstract
Objective: To report the experience of recreational activities with older adults in Long-Term Care Institutions.
Experience report: The activity was carried out through an extension project, from March to December 2024, led by the Longeviver research group at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. It involved seven philanthropic LTCIs in the metropolitan region of Natal/RN. Recreational activities such as bingo, music, dance, and poetry recitation were conducted with the participation of fifty older adults, professionals from the institutions, and members of the group. The activities improved the mood and social interaction of the elderly, highlighting the importance of sociocognitive stimulation for healthy aging. The multiprofessional approach was essential for the effectiveness of the interventions, aligned with current geriatric guidelines. Final considerations: The experience emphasizes the importance of humanized care, teamwork, and integration between the university and care institutions. Well-planned recreational actions can positively impact the quality of life of institutionalized older adults. Ongoing strategies and research that evaluate their outcomes are necessary.
