Abstract

Objective: To analyze and compare CAD/CAM technology regarding its superiority over the conventional technique in the fabrication of mucosa-supported complete dentures. Methods: The research was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. An electronic search was performed in two databases, Medline-PubMed and Scopus, including studies that compared both techniques and were published in the last 10 years. A total of 389 articles were found, and after analyzing the inclusion and exclusion criteria, with the aid of the Endnote selection software, 5 articles remained. Results: Dentures fabricated through the digital workflow presented advantages such as faster fabrication, better adaptation, and reduced weight and volume, with no significant difference in monomer release. However, they have a high cost and require standardization of both clinical and laboratory techniques. Final considerations: CAD/CAM technology has shown promising results in optimizing the workflow compared to the conventional technique.
