Abstract
Objective: To analyze the role of cannabidiol (CBD) as a possible therapeutic tool for hepatic steatosis. Literature review: The liver is a multifunctional metabolic organ that performs a series of metabolic processes, such as: bile secretion, filtration of toxic substances from the body, storage of vitamins, regulation of blood flow, synthesis of essential substances and metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. When developing a picture of hepatic steatosis, the liver has its functions directly impaired, due to the accumulation of fat. In this line, Cannabidiol emerges as a promising therapeutic tool in the treatment of steatosis, since CBD has the ability to modulate lipid metabolism, perform anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action, hepatoprotective effect and possible anticancer potential. Final considerations: Experimental studies suggest that CBD can reduce fat deposition in the liver, a hallmark of hepatic steatosis, attenuate oxidative stress and modulate inflammatory pathways associated with the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, more clinical research is still needed to correlate the dosage and adverse effects of CBD in the management of hepatic steatosis.
