Abstract

Objective: To present a review comparing self-adhesive and conventional resin cements in the cementation of fiberglass posts (anatomized or not) to the root dentin of endodontically treated teeth. Methods: To measure the bond strength by means of push-out or pull-out tests. Results: Studies published between 2014 and 2024 that used push-out and pull-out tests to measure the adhesion strength of the cements were analyzed. The review identified that, in 62.5% of the studies, self-adhesive cements presented greater adhesion strength, while conventional cements were superior in 37.5% of the cases. Factors such as the study methodology and the anatomy of the root canal, as well as the properties of the cements, can influence the results of the articles reviewed in this study and consequently play an active role in these variability values. Final considerations: Both conventional and self-adhesive cements have their advantages and limitations, and the choice of material should consider specific clinical factors, such as the depth of the root canal and the complexity of the application technique.
