Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the relevance of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping in the prevention of cervical cancer through an integrative literature review. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted between September and October 2024. The search was carried out in SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. Inclusion criteria comprised original articles published between 2020 and 2024, in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, addressing HPV genotyping in women. Twelve studies were selected after applying eligibility criteria. Data analysis was based on thematic categorization. Results: HPV genotyping proved to be a promising tool for risk stratification, enabling more targeted and effective clinical decisions. Molecular tests showed higher sensitivity in detecting precursor lesions and contributed to reducing morbidity and mortality related to cervical cancer. Self-sampling and rapid testing emerged as feasible strategies, especially in underserved settings. Final considerations: HPV genotyping enhances screening programs by enabling personalized clinical decision-making. Despite the advances, large-scale implementation faces structural challenges, particularly in developing countries.
