Abstract

Objective: To seek the best scientific evidence regarding health education practices to increase the rates of adequate preparation for the colonoscopy exam. Methods: This was an integrative literature review consisting of 16 articles that presented the best evidence available on the BVS, MEDLINE/PUBMED, SCOPUS and EMBASE platforms. The collection of information took place from April to June 2024. After analyzing the content of the articles, it was possible to identify two thematic categories regarding educational practices: The use of educational technologies to improve the patient's knowledge and understanding and the effectiveness of educational technologies to improve the conditions of preparation. Results: The studies found were international and demonstrated that educational practices are mediated by technologies. Thus, increasing the rates of adequate preparation for colonoscopy can be achieved with the use of educational technologies such as applications, videos, interactive printouts, monitoring via WhatsApp, computer-based instructions, educational platforms and the ability of services to reorganize themselves with protocols and education sessions led by nurses. Final considerations: It was possible to infer that educational technology is well accepted by patients and presents better results when used concomitantly with the educational process guided by the nurse.
