Abstract
Objective: Review the efficacy and safety of the drug pembrolizumab in triple-negative breast cancer. Methods: An integrative review was carried out using the PUBMED, BVS, and LILACS databases, with the descriptors “pembrolizumab and triple negative breast cancer” and their alternative terms in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. The search was filtered for randomized clinical trials published in the last five years. Results: Nineteen articles were selected describing the safety and efficacy of pembrolizumab in TNBC. The drug showed better objective response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) compared to chemotherapy alone. Regarding safety, grade 1 and 2 adverse events were reported, which may limit its use in patients with immune-related diseases. However, these effects were considered mild and manageable with corticosteroids and supportive care. Final considerations: Pembrolizumab is an effective and safe therapeutic alternative for the treatment of TNBC.
