Abstract

Objective: To analyze food selectivity and anthropometric indices in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, conducted with 23 children and adolescents, of both sexes, treated at a university hospital in Belém of Pará. For nutritional diagnosis, anthropometric indices of weight, height and body mass index for age and sex were evaluated. The LABIRINTO Scale for Assessment of Eating Behavior in autism was used to identify dietary changes. Results: The study showed a predominance of males, with a tendency short stature and risk of overweight and obesity. A low preference for fruits and vegetables was observed, indicating the presence of dietary monotony. Conclusion: Dietary restriction reinforces risk behaviors for the occurrence of short stature and excess weight, demonstrating the importance of monitoring anthropometric indices and follow-up with the multidisciplinary team.
