Abstract
Objective: To understand the perspective of Primary Health Care nurses on the prenatal follow-up of pregnant women diagnosed with syphilis. Methods: A descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study conducted through interviews in 2023 with 11 nurses working in Basic Health Units in a municipality in Paraná, Brazil. The material was subjected to content analysis. Results: According to the participants, the follow-up of gestational syphilis includes opening the prenatal care process, requesting exams, referring for medical evaluation, notification, and monitoring of the treatment. The main challenges are related to patient adherence to prenatal care and the recruitment of partners for testing and treatment. Conclusion: It is evident that the biomedical model remains deeply rooted in health practices, highlighting the urgent need for actions aimed at health promotion. Additionally, it is essential to develop strategies that strengthen the patient-professional bond and promote nursing empowerment to improve the quality of care provided in the units.
