Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the obstetric and perinatal outcomes of pregnant women admitted for labor induction from 40 weeks of gestational age. Methods: A retrospective observational study was carried out using data from the medical records of pregnant women admitted to a public hospital in São Paulo during the year 2023. The data collected referred to the obstetric characteristics of the women and the perinatal characteristics of the newborns. Results: The 3,058 patients were admitted to a public hospital in 2023, and 412 pregnant women with 40 weeks or more underwent labor induction. The participants were divided into two groups. In the 41-week group, misoprostol was used in 84.4% of the pregnant women (p=0.001) and induction time of up to 24 hours occurred in 49.5% of them (p=0.031). The test for Streptococcus agalactiae was negative in 50.5% of the 41-week group and 62% of the 40-week group (p=0.049). The average weight of the newborn was higher in the 41-week group (p=0.002). Conclusion: This study showed that labor induction after 40 weeks is associated with greater use of misoprostol and with induction time of up to 24 hours.
