Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the perception of undergraduate dental students from a dental school regarding endodontic treatment. Methods: A transversal and observational approach was adopted, with an electronic questionnaire via Google Forms applied to 135 students from the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th semesters. Results: It was found that 48.9% of the students do not feel fully prepared to perform endodontic treatments, while 45.2% feel capable, and 5.9% do not consider themselves qualified. Anxiety was highlighted, with 40% of participants reporting moderate levels. The main difficulties identified were the morphology of the root canals, the diagnosis process, and the techniques used, with these being the biggest challenges. Despite the obstacles, 94.8% of students recognized the importance of mastering endodontic procedures for their professional training. Conclusion: It is concluded that it is essential to improve teaching strategies in the endodontics course by offering continuous support and more intensive activities, in order to boost student’s  self-confidence and enhance the teaching-learning process effectively.
