Abstract

Objective: To integratively review the literature on physical exercise interventions for hypertension management in older adults, highlighting exercise modalities, duration, frequency, and intensity, as well as comparing outcomes in terms of blood pressure reduction. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, including articles published between 2018 and 2023, in Portuguese and English, with full-text availability. The guiding question was: What is the impact of combining physical exercise and nutritional guidance on hypertension control in older adults? The literature search was conducted from May to August 2024 using databases such as Medline/PubMed, with the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) platform utilized to define the descriptors. The selected search terms included: "Physical Exercise," "Hypertension," and "Older Adults," with the use of Boolean operators "AND" and "OR." Results: Seven articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, highlighting physical activity and nutritional guidance as key factors in promoting health among hypertensive older adults. Final considerations: The practice of physical activity and nutritional guidance effectively reduced systolic blood pressure in hypertensive older adults, with exercises such as walking, HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), and the adoption of the DASH diet being particularly effective.
