Abstract
Objective: Identify the use of packed red blood cells in pre-hospital care (PHC) as a strategy to reduce morbidity and mortality in patients suffering from severe trauma with class III and IV hemorrhagic shock. Methods: Integrative literature review in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences databases, in the National Library of Medicine and in the Scientific Electronic Library Online, carried out between April 2022 and May 2023, using the 6 steps of the methodology in an integrative review, using evidence from the last ten years as a temporal cut-off. Results: The sample consisted of 26 articles, which described the use of packed red blood cells in pre-hospitall and andair care for trauma and poly trauma patients with class III hemorrhagic shock, and a reduction in the morbidity and mortality rate of these patients was noted patients in the first 24 hours after trauma. Final considerations: Despite the debates regarding the benefits and risks to the patient, it is evident in the literature that the practice of transfusing packed red blood cells in PHC has been astrategy adopted in several countries, which has brought benefits, suchas reducing the rate of morbidity and mortality in the first 24 hours of trauma and polytrauma victims.
