Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate heart rate control during hospitalization for acute myocardial infarction and its relationship with clinical outcomes. Methods: Retrospective cohort, descriptive observational type, non-interventionist. Carried out with 222 patients hospitalized between April and July 2024 in a reference hospital in cardiology in the state of Pará. Results: Among patients who reached the controlled heart rate target during hospitalization, there was only 1 death, while those who did not reach the target had 19 deaths, in addition to more cardiogenic shock and new infarction during hospitalization. A high heart rate increases the risk of rehospitalization, new heart attack and death. Medications can be used to control the heart rate, the main class being beta-blockers. Conclusion: The use of medications, including beta-blockers, to control heart rate is essential after an acute myocardial infarction event. In practice, therapeutic inertia during hospitalization impacts negative outcomes for these patients.
