Abstract
Objective: To analyze the association between interleukin-1B (IL1B) polymorphisms and susceptibility to Helicobacter pylori infection, considering their influence on the host’s inflammatory response, through an integrative literature review. Methods: Observational studies published between 2003 and 2025 in Portuguese and English that addressed the association between IL1B and H. pylori were included. After screening and applying eligibility criteria, the selected articles were qualitatively analyzed. Results: A total of 571 articles were identified, with 263 excluded due to duplication. After reviewing 307 titles and abstracts, 109 full-text articles were read, and 22 were included in the review. Of these, 12 addressed the IL1B-31 polymorphism, 16 the IL1B-511, and 8 the IL1B+3954. The PCR-RFLP technique was the most frequently used for genotyping single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The main findings indicated an association between the IL1B-31 C allele and the CC genotype, as well as the IL1B-511 T allele, with increased susceptibility to infection. Final considerations: Identifying IL1B polymorphisms may assist in tracking individuals at increased risk for H. pylori infection. The findings reinforce the role of genetics in the inflammatory response and clinical prognosis.
