Abstract

Objective: This study analyzed the spatial distribution of AIDS mortality in the municipalities of Bahia, from 2009 to 2019. Methods: Data from the Mortality Information System (SIM) of DATASUS were used, as well as population aspects extracted from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Descriptive statistics, calculation of mortality rates, as well as spatial analysis using mean coefficients and Moran indexes were performed. Results: A total of 6,173 deaths from HIV were recorded in the period, with a higher concentration in metropolitan regions. The spatial analysis showed that AIDS mortality rates presented significant spatial autocorrelation in all years except 2010, indicating the existence of spatial patterns in the occurrence of the disease. Conclusion: It is necessary to analyze the epidemiological picture of STD/AIDS at the local level, considering the vulnerabilities of affected people and care practices in line with the principles of the SUS. The study also suggests the need to deconstruct the social stigma in relation to AIDS and promote processes of confrontation and transformation.
