Abstract

Objective: To highlight recent advances in cervical cancer screening methods, with emphasis on cytology and HPV DNA testing. Methods: The following inclusion criteria were defined for the material identified in the search: articles published with content relevant to the study's objectives, using bibliographic databases such as PUBMED (US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health), Scielo, BVS (Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde) and Acervo Mais. Studies that did not address cervical cancer screening or were outside the data collection period were excluded from the analysis. Experience reports, case studies, book chapters, and duplicate articles in the databases were discarded. Results: Nine relevant studies were identified that address updates in cervical cancer screening methods, published between 2015 and 2024. These studies present different methodologies, objectives, and results, providing a comprehensive view of advancements in this area. The principal author, year of publication, objectives, methodology, and key findings are detailed organized in a table. Final considerations: The HPV-DNA test is more effective than conventional cytology in cervical cancer screening, allowing for early detection of lesions. The adoption of this test, combined with emerging technologies, represents significant progress in prevention, diagnostic accuracy, management of high-risk lesions and reduction of mortality.
