Abstract

Objective: To analyze the main scientific findings related to the therapeutic use of botulinum toxin type A in the rehabilitation of patients with facial asymmetry due to Bell's palsy. Literature review: Botulinum toxin type A (BTA), widely recognized in the aesthetic context, has stood out as an effective tool in the treatment of sequelae of facial paralysis, promoting muscle relaxation and improving facial symmetry. BTA is effective in correcting synkinesias, spasms and muscle hypertonicity, in addition to contributing to the rehabilitation of the smile and facial mimicry. For satisfactory results, the application of the toxin must be personalized, considering the residual movement pattern and the individual characteristics of each patient. The technique requires great precision and detailed anatomical knowledge, highlighting the importance of qualified professionals. Final considerations: The literature indicates that BTA, when applied correctly, improves both facial function and aesthetics, promoting a significant improvement in the quality of life and social reintegration of patients with Bell's palsy.
