Abstract

Objective: To identify the impacts of exposure to ionizing radiation and preventive measures aimed at health professionals in the areas of orthopedics and traumatology. Methods: This is an integrative review, composed of six methodological steps, with the objective of identifying scientific evidence on exposure to ionizing radiation and the protective measures adopted by the team's professionals. Primary studies published between 2015 and 2025, available in full and written in English, Portuguese or Spanish were included. The bibliographic search was carried out in the LILACS, MEDLINE/PubMed, IBECS, BDENF and SciELO databases. Results: The initial search identified 1,659 articles, of which 10 were selected. The studies showed that professionals are frequently exposed to ionizing radiation during surgical procedures and subject to institutional failures, such as lack of protective equipment, lack of supervision and continued training. They demonstrate a significant deficit in knowledge and practices of radiological protection, exposing professionals to avoidable occupational risks. Final considerations: It is possible to consider a high adherence to the use of lead aprons, but the use of other equipment, such as thyroid protectors and glasses, is low. In addition, there is a lack of adequate training on radiological protection, contributing to insufficient knowledge about the risks of radiation.
