Abstract
Objective: To investigate how virtual social networks influence the subjective well-being and self-concept of adults. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, qualitative study carried out in March 2024 through a focus group. The sample consisted of 15 adults of different genders, university students, living in the state of Santa Catarina. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: There was a variation in the length of time social media was used, especially for professional reasons. There was a consensus that subjective well-being and self-concept are intertwined. The use of selfies and filters varied among participants, reflecting different attitudes about self-image and authenticity. The effects of the tools on the phenomena have a positive or negative influence. Final considerations: The study revealed that the use of social networks is deeply rooted in the daily lives of adults, influencing subjective well-being and self-concept in complex and varied ways. Awareness and reflection on the use of these platforms are crucial to maintaining a healthy relationship with virtual social networks, avoiding their negative effects and promoting a better quality of life.
