Abstract
Objective: To identify, based on current literature, relevant clinical and therapeutic information regarding the main advances and perspectives in the treatment of pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and pemphigus foliaceus (PF).
Methods: Integrative literature review following the method proposed by Souza et al. (2010), with searches conducted in BVS, SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. Articles published between 2015 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, addressing therapeutic options and biopsychosocial impacts of both conditions were included. After screening, 20 studies comprised the final sample. Data were extracted using a standardized form and critically analyzed regarding relevance and methodological quality.
Results: Cyclophosphamide and azathioprine are commonly used in pulse therapy for PV. Rituximab plays a significant role in the treatment of both PV and PF, as does methotrexate, along with other options such as intravenous immunoglobulin. Conclusion: Patient management should be individualized, with careful consideration of mental health and emphasis on cancer screening. A significant gap remains in the literature concerning the most effective therapeutic strategies for both variants, especially for endemic PF, which is prevalent in South America and still underrepresented in robust studies.
