Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the self-care of people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in five Basic Health Units in the urban area of Santarém-PA, in the Brazilian Amazon. Methods: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, and observational study. From September 24 to November 20, 2024, 102 people with T2DM were interviewed using the Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire (QAD). Results: The sample consisted mostly of elderly people (66.5 years ± 9.1), female (72.5%), and low-income (1,994.15 ± 1,393.16). Regarding the QAD assessment, the interviewees responded that, on average, 4.7 days (± standard deviation) of the last week followed a healthy diet, 0.8 (± 1.6) consumed sweets, 2.0 (± 2.6) practiced some type of physical exercise, and assessed their blood glucose levels as 1.5 (± 2.2). Conclusion: The level of self-care of the interviewees was considered unsatisfactory, especially in relation to physical activity, blood glucose monitoring, and foot care.
