Abstract
Objective: To understand the pathophysiology of acute kidney injury in patients with dengue fever. Methods: This study is an integrative literature review, in which the results obtained were extracted through the collection of information in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Capes Periódicos and PubMed, with the following associated terms: acute kidney injury, acute kidney injury and acute renal failure, combined with the Boolean operator “AND”, to the descriptor - dengue fever. The guiding question used was: What are the pathophysiological mechanisms of kidney injury in patients with dengue fever? The works selected for data analysis were those published between 2014 and 2024, in Portuguese, English or Spanish. Results: Through this literature review, it was possible to analyze the real pathophysiological mechanisms that lead patients with clinical symptoms of dengue to develop acute kidney injury, including the pathogenesis, treatment and diagnosis of these correlated clinical syndromes. Final considerations: Several pathophysiological processes are related to the process of acute kidney injury in patients with dengue, including hypoperfusion, direct kidney injury, formation of immune complexes and rhabdomyolysis.
