Abstract
Objective: To compare academic perception with academic performance in a medical course under implementation. Methods: Cross-sectional study with students from the first to the fourth year of the medical course using the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) and the Progress Test (TP). Comparative statistics were performed using ANOVA, Student's t-test and Kruskal-Wallis test, and correlation was tested using Pearson's method. Results: The mean DREEM score was 2.48±41, and the mean PT score was 47.77±9.75. There was no difference in the general academic perception between the four grades, and the mean PT increased in the first three years (p < 0.05), with no difference observed between the 3rd and 4th grades. When comparing the components of the DREEM, the Teachers domain had the highest mean in the upper quartiles of the PT means, and both variables correlated (r(118) = 0.1947, p = 0.036). Conclusion: The academic perception of this newly established medical school presented more positive than negative aspects. The Progress Test averages increased from the 1st to the 3rd year. The academic perception of the Professors was correlated with higher academic performance.
