Abstract

Objective: To analyze the perceptions of children and their family members regarding outpatient antineoplastic chemotherapy treatment. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted in a pediatric chemotherapy outpatient clinic, involving 22 children and 23 family members. Data collection utilized semi-structured interviews, and for the children, the directed drawing technique was employed. Thematic content analysis was conducted using IraMuTeQ software as a methodological tool, employing a descending hierarchical classification approach in the study. Results: Family members and children shared their experiences, narrating their perceptions and symptoms during outpatient chemotherapy treatment, highlighting alopecia, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue. The time spent in the outpatient clinic and the fear of punctures have been mentioned. Conclusion: The nurse plays a fundamental role as an agent of guidance and specialized care, providing clarification and continuous support throughout the treatment. The importance of comprehensive care for families is emphasized by promoting the inclusion of children in the therapeutic process.
