Abstract

Objective: To analyze the effects of stretching exercises on the quality of life of older adults. Methods: The research was conducted between January and February 2025, using the PubMed, SciELO, ScienceDirect, LILACS and Cochrane Library databases. Results: A total of 613 articles were identified, of which 13 met the eligibility criteria established according to the PRISMA protocol. The included studies involve stretching, both in isolation and as part of multicomponent programs, promoting benefits for the physical and functional health of elderly people, such as improved flexibility, functional capacity, balance, autonomy in activities of daily living and cognition. Protocols that associated stretching with other modalities, such as strength training, aerobic resistance, balance and health education, demonstrated greater effectiveness and adherence. The results also highlight positive results in psychological well-being and quality of life, especially when the interventions were carried out in groups, with professional supervision and a social component. Final considerations: Stretching can be considered a safe, low-cost, and effective strategy for promoting active aging, and its incorporation is recommended in health programs aimed at the elderly population, both at the community and institutional levels.
