Abstract
Objective: To analyze frailty, balance and quality of life in two subpopulations of institutionalized and non-institutionalized older adults. Methods: For this, the Mini Mental State Examination tests were used for cognitive assessment, orientation, memory and attention; Tinetti's test to assess balance and mobility; Katz index for assessing activities of daily living; and Stroke-Specific Quality of Life. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistics with the aid of the Graph Pad Prism software. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: The population consisted of 53 individuals, most of whom were institutionalized (67.93%) and were male (58.49%). In this study, it was found that the non-institutionalized post-stroke elderly had more positive results in terms of cognitive health, mobility and balance, and quality of life – possibly due to their autonomy, maintenance of family relationships, affection, and social life. Conclusion: Non-institutionalized post-stroke older adults demonstrated better performance in cognition, mobility, and quality of life, possibly due to their greater autonomy and social bonds. The study highlights the importance of health promotion strategies based on different life contexts. It is recommended that further research be conducted with larger samples for more representative results.
