Abstract

Objective: To assess the prevalence of discrimination experienced by transgender individuals living with HIV/AIDS in healthcare and dental services, as well as the associated factors. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 350 patients from the Specialized Care Service (SAE) in Juiz de Fora. Data collection took place between April and July 2024. Three outcomes were investigated: explicit discrimination, discrimination in healthcare services, and discrimination during dental care. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 2.0 for Windows. Results: Among the 350 participants, only 4% were transgender/non-binary individuals, 34.6% identified as homosexual, 52% were aged between 18 and 44 years, and 38.9% had brown skin. Among transgender and non-binary individuals, 37.5% reported physical aggression, 78.5% reported verbal antagonism, 57.1% experienced discrimination in healthcare services, 42.8% reported concealing their HIV-positive status in dental settings, and 21.4% perceived a change in behavior from the dentist. Conclusion: Discrimination related to gender identity and HIV-positive status still persists in dental care settings.
