Abstract

Objective: To investigate the role of nurses in assisting pediatric oncology patients in the process of death/dying under PC, based on scientific evidence. Methods: This is an integrative literature review conducted through searches in virtual platforms such as the Virtual Health Library (VHL), National Library of Medicine (NLM), and the CAPES journals portal. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to select the sample. Results: A total of 23 articles were identified, of which 13 were included for analysis. The research enabled the construction of two thematic categories: the relevance of the nursing team in pediatric PC and the challenges faced in the humanization process and family involvement in pediatric oncology care. Nurses face challenges such as physical and emotional exhaustion, difficulty accepting death, and insufficient technical-scientific preparation to provide effective palliative care and bereavement support. Final considerations: Nursing plays a crucial role in the PC offered to pediatric oncology patients and their families. Therefore, continuing education for these professionals is essential, as well as addressing grief and humanized care during academic training, encouraging reflection in the classroom.
