Abstract
Objective: To map scientific evidence about spiritual care practices performed by death doulas for people at the end of life. Methods: Integrative review carried out from January to December 2024, using the descriptors “doulas”, “death”, “experiences”, “terminal care” and “palliative care at the end of life” and “spirituality” connected with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR” in internationally indexed databases. For data analysis, the Descending Hierarchical Classification and Similitude Tree of the IRaMuTEQ® software were used. Results: The textual corpus was composed of 08 texts divided into 24 textual segments, of which 75% were used. The triangulation between the results of the Descending Hierarchical Classification and the Similitude Tree highlights a strong discursive convergence around three major axes: 1) The patient as the protagonist of his/her own death: construction of meaning and legacy; 2) Death as a journey: spirituality and emotional support; 3) End-of-life doulas: the rescue of the Sacred in end-of-life care. Final considerations: Death doulas act not only as caregivers, but as guardians of meanings, mediating rituals, resignifications and farewells, based on qualified listening, empathic presence and lived spirituality.
