Abstract

Objective: To identify the level of smartphone dependence among high school students at a school located in the countryside of Santa Catarina. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study conducted in November 2024 with 65 students. Data were collected through an online questionnaire with sociodemographic questions and the Cell Phone Dependency Scale, validated by King ALS, et al. (2019). The analysis included frequency distribution and association tests between dependence and variables such as age, gender, and school grade. Results: All participants showed some level of dependence, with a predominance of moderate dependence (64.6%). No statistically significant association was found between dependence and age, gender, or grade. As an educational action, a workshop was held with students and teachers to address the impacts of excessive smartphone use and promote conscious and balanced technology use. Conclusion: The results indicate a high prevalence of dependence among adolescents, reinforcing the need for preventive strategies within the school environment that encourage balanced use of digital devices.
