Abstract
Objective: To present a clinical case study of temporary mandibular reconstruction using a tissue space maintainer after resection of a mandibular myxoma. Case details: A 22-year-old Caucasian female patient with a 6-month history of swelling in the posterior region of the right mandible presented to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology Department of the University Hospital of the North of Brazil. An incisional biopsy for histopathological examination revealed a myxoma. Due to the large expansion of the lesion, resection of the myxoma in the posterior region of the right mandible was proposed, combined with temporary reconstruction with a resin prosthesis to maintain tissue space. Final considerations: This case report highlights the proposed temporary treatment option for mandibular reconstruction with a temporary prosthesis, since acquiring a temporomandibular joint prosthesis for the Unified Health System (SUS) is extremely difficult.
